This is a detailed itinerary with a selection of some of the best places included in our Travel Guide about what to see in Lanzarote. Of course, you may customise your itinerary depending on your interests!

Day 1: Visit the north of Lanzarote

Arrecife

Your first-day itinerary to visit the north of Lanzarote starts in the capital city, where you’ll discover some tourist sites. In the city centre you’ll find the following:

  • Charco de San Ginés, with a nice port and restaurants.
  • Castillo de San Gabriel, a castle with a beautiful bridge.
  • Calle León y Castillo (the old main street), which is nowadays the main shopping street.

If you’ve got a car, drive to Castillo de San José, a castle that holds the International Museum of Contemporary Art, the Reducto Beach and Telamon’s Ghost Ship.

Jameos del Agua

Enter this lava tunnel which was transformed into a masterpiece thanks to the greatest local artist Cesar Manrique. Discover the ‘jameitos’, those little blind white crabs that are unique in the world! There is also a restaurant and an impressive auditorium.

Cueva de los Verdes

Mirador del Rio

Your next stop is this breathtaking viewpoint which was also designed by the local artist Manrique. Enjoy its fantastic views over the island of La Graciosa and the four islets of Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Alegranza.

Hiking Route to La Corona Volcano (optional)

This is an easy hiking route that usually takes one and a half hours. It will bring you to the crater of La Corona Volcano. Cueva de los Verdes and Los Jameos del Agua were originated after the eruptions of this volcanic cone. The starting point is the church in the little village of Ye.

Your next stop is Teguise, the most beautiful city in Lanzarote and the old capital city. Walk around the Old Quarter and get to visit Santa Bárbara Castle, which holds a Pirate Museum and where the views are just spectacular.

Famara

Your last stop today is the village of Caleta de Famara, a very famous place for surfing. You’ll be impressed by the cliffs of Famara while walking along its streets and its volcanic sand beach.

You can also sunbathe or go for a swim and, of course, enjoy the wonderful sunset surrounded by mountains that will turn into different red and orange colours.

Day 2: From Timanfaya to Papagayo

Timanfaya National Park

Day 2 begins with the most popular attraction in Lanzarote: Timanfaya National Park and its volcanoes. There are some organised tours available in the National Park. The meeting point for these tours is at Islote de Hilario, where there is a parking area where you can leave your car. Some of them are:

  • Islote de Hilario: an area where geysers are still active.
  • Bus Route around the Volcanoes and Montañas del Fuego (an impressive volcanic landscape created after the eruptions).
  • El Diablo Restaurant, where food is made using the heat of the ground.

If you are in love with Timanfaya, there are two other places to visit on your own:

  • Echadero de los Camellos, where you can go on a camel ride surrounded by volcanoes and visit a small museum about dromedaries.
  • Visitor Centre of Mancha Blanca, where you’ll discover the origin of the volcanic cones in Lanzarote.

Los Hervideros Cliffs

Stop by Los Hervideros Cliffs, where waves hit the rocks heavily, creating a marvellous visual effect and a roaring sound that will catch your complete attention.

Charco de los Clicos and El Golfo

Your next stop is this green lagoon inside the crater of a volcano. It’s very close to a fishing town called El Golfo. It’s really worth visiting!

Papagayo

Day 3: La Graciosa or another day trip around Lanzarote

Option 1: A day trip to the island of La Graciosa

Option 2: Tinajo, Caldera Blanca Volcano, La Geria, Tias and Puerto del Carmen

A second option for the last day of this 3-day itinerary in Lanzarote is to do a tour around the middle part of the island. The places to visit are:

  • Los Dolores Church: chapel where you can visit the patron saint of Lanzarote, Virgen de los Dolores.
  • Caldera Blanca and La Caldereta Volcanos: enjoy a trekking route to admire two craters within the Volcanoes National Park. Did you know that the diameter of Caldera Blanca is more than 1km long? It’s an easy trek and takes around 3 hours.
