4 Days Itinerary in Lanzarote: What to do and see

This is a detailed itinerary with a selection of some of the best places included in our Travel Guide about what to see in Lanzarote. Of course, you may customise your itinerary depending on your interests!

Day 1: Timanfaya and the north of Lanzarote

Your holidays are here! Start your 4-day itinerary on the island by visiting the magical spirit of Timanfaya and the beauties designed by the local artist Cesar Manrique in the north:

Timanfaya National Park

Your first stop is the greatest attraction in Lanzarote: Timanfaya National Park and Montañas del Fuego (an impressive volcanic landscape created after the eruptions). There are some organised routes available in the National Park:

  • Islote de Hilario, where geysers are still active.
  • Bus Route around the Volcanoes and Montañas del Fuego.
  • El Diablo Restaurant, where food is made thanks to the heat of the ground.

The meeting point for these tours is at Islote de Hilario, right beside a parking area where you can leave your car. However, you can also book excursions in Lanzarote that include transfers from your accommodation and a guided tour that covers Timanfaya, Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes.

In addition, if you visit Timanfaya on your own, you can also stop by:

  • The Visitor Centre of Mancha Blanca: the ideal place to discover the origin of the volcanic cones in the island.
  • Echadero de los Camellos, where you can go on a camel ride surrounded by volcanoes! There is also a small museum about these dromedaries.

Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes

Once in the north part of the island, you have two must-see attractions: Jameos del Agua and Cueva de los Verdes, which are two parts of the same lava tunnel but completely different sceneries. The first one consists of three holes that connect the tunnel with the outside world. The greatest local artist Cesar Manrique used the light to highlight the beauty of nature.

Keep your eyes open on your way down and discover the ‘jameitos’, which are tiny blind white crabs that are unique in the world! There is also a restaurant and an auditorium.

You’ll find Cueva de los Verdes just a few minutes away. This part also belongs to the previous lava tunnel created after the eruption of La Corona Volcano. Local people used this tunnel to hide themselves from pirates and corsairs. What a wonderful variety of colours and shapes of solid lava on its walls and ceiling!

At the end of the visit, you’ll get to know the Big Secret of Cueva de los Verdes. Keep it a secret!
